August Library News

Fun dates  2 Ice Cream Sandwich Day, 3 Kid's Day, 6 Root Beer Float Day, 8 U.S. Dollar Day, 10 First Steam Locomotive, 13 Left Handed Persons Day, 14 Roast Marshmallow Day, 16 Roller Coaster Day, and 28 I Have A Dream Day.  First week is Clown Week, Second Week is Smile Week, Third Week is Friendship Week, Fourth Week is National Bowling Week.  August is also the month to remember Catfish, Golf, Inventors and Water Quality.


Summer Reading Sponsors


Jul 26      Readers Theater Workshop from 10 to 2 for 3rd to 6th Graders - Registration Required. Come be part of a Not So Scary Readers Theater production. We will be making props, costumes and masks; and preparing for parts and then presenting the production during that afteroon's preschool storytime. Lunch will be provided.

Jul 26     Pre-School Storytime from 1 to 2 for Preschool to 2nd grade.  Come watch the performance put on by the Readers Theater workshop.

Jul 28     Citizens We, Citizen Me - Turkish Culture from 1 to 2:30.  Sample language, food, crafts and games.

Jul 28     Handwriting Analysis with Chris McBrien from 4 to 5 for 6th grade to adult. Discover what your handwriting reveals about you and your personality; and learn some handwriting analysis methods to try on your family and friends.

Jul 31     Summer Reading Program Finale from 10 to Noon: Ages Kindergarten to 6th grade. Kids Kindergarten through 6th Grade who complete and return their reading logs between July 16 - July 28 will receive a ticket to attend the SummerReading Finale to enjoy Scary Science with Mad-Science. Fun hair-raising experiments with exciting demonstrations by a Mad Scientist. There also will be additional prizes awarded for completing the Summer Reading Club such as Grizzlies tickets, a chance to win Cardinal tickets, snacks and more.

Every Wednesday in June and July: Monsters in the library. Stop in and hunt down a monster to get a prize.

Every week in June and July: Register for weekly Summer Reading Program prize drawings.

Change in out of district non-resident library card fee:
Effective July 1, 2010, the non-resident library card fee will increase to $100 per year per residence
. This is a $3 increase.

BOOK SALE
on Friday, August 6th and Saturday, August 21st. The Friends of the library have a book sale on the first Friday and the third Saturday of every month from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

VOTER REGISTRATION. Voters may register at the library from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Ask for Jeanne or Denise. When a person registers to vote, they must show two types of identification, one must have their current address, and they must present a photo I.D. It is also required to use the social security number (at least the last four digits) or the drivers license number.

LIBRARY BOARD MEETING. The library board meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 pm (unless noted otherwise). The public is encouraged to attend as plans for the future of the library are discussed.
