Mary Ellen Akridge

Vice President- 6 Year Trustee Term (Ending 2025)

Mary Ellen comes to the Troy Tri Township Library with much experience. She was a volunteer, an employee and a board member at the Fairview Heights library. She also organized and ran a volunteer library in the local schools when budget cuts closed the school libraries in Fairview. She and her family moved to Troy in 2014 because they  wanted to retire on a lake close to their daughter and Troy came highly recommended.

Mary Ellen has had a variety of experiences: she operated a home remodeling business, kept books for a series of doctors, organized fundraising events for the St. Louis Science Center and has years of community service in the school, church, scouts and little league. In addition, she has a Masters plus in Elementary Education and taught  Social Studies.

As a lifelong reader, she believes libraries are an essential component of every community. She also enjoys traveling, gardening, attending grandson’s events and working with the Friends of the Library on donations and booksales.
